Aften M. Grant is a 2004 graduate (Summa Cum Laude) of the University of Mary, Bismarck, North Dakota, where she received a Bachelor of Science in psychology. In 2006, Aften received a Master of Arts in counseling psychology from the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, ND. While in her master’s program, Aften trained to become a marriage and family therapist. In 2009, after deciding she wanted to become an advocate for individual clients and their rights, Aften applied and was admitted to the University of North Dakota School of Law. She graduated in 2012. Aften is licensed to practice law in the United States Federal District Court of North Dakota, North Dakota State Courts and the Three Affiliated Tribal Court; she has nearly 10 years of courtroom experience.
For her first several years as an attorney, Aften primarily practiced criminal defense and family law. Since joining the McGee Law Firm on February 1, 2015, Aften has concentrated exclusively on family law, where her education and skill set is best utilized. Aften routinely handles divorces, legal separations, custody disputes, guardianships, nonparent custody and visitation cases, foster care and stepparent adoptions, child support matters, disorderly conduct and domestic violence restraining orders and a variety of civil post-judgment disputes including, but not limited to, contempt.
Aften and her husband, fellow partner Erich M. Grant, live in Minot with their three children and terrier. When they aren’t working, Aften and Erich enjoy traveling and spending time outdoors.
